Latest Medical Research:

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association  (JAMA) states that a “proposed diabetes pill seemed to significantly increase heart attack and stroke risks.”  In the same issue, an editorial said “the drug’s sponsor’s  had been disingenuous in submitting data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that may have fostered an illusion of safety.”

The JAMA article which received relatively little press attention is especially big news when you consider that the study authors, two Cleveland Clinic cardiologists, were the same two researchers who sounded alarms about Vioxx in 2001. The implication of a flawed diabetes drug, one that potentially increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, is very worry-some given the growing incidence of new cases diabetes cases and the risk it poses to the “Baby Boom Generation.”  Similar concerns have also been raised in the past about how major drug companies have disclosed the risks of cholesterol lowering drugs.

This pattern of deceit by the drug companies, often with the complacency of the FDA, is just another example of the need for you to do your own research and take control of your health.
